Our Story

Begun in 2013 and officially incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 2019, B More Global was founded with a singular idea: that all students, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, or socioeconomic status, deserve the opportunity to grow by traveling.

Our Team

Kim Coleman

Co-Founder

Kim is an education administrator with Baltimore City Public Schools, providing leadership and direction for high priority initiatives. Prior to this position, she worked in policy and legislation for the Deputy Mayor for Education in Washington, DC, and also taught in Baltimore City for 13 years. Kim has been coordinating study abroad programs for Baltimore students since 2007. Kim was awarded the 2017 Maryland Governor's Service Award, was named one of Maryland's Leading Women under 40 by the Maryland Daily Record in 2020, and was honored as one of Baltimore's Emerging Leaders under 40 by the Baltimore Banner in 2023.

James Munlyn

Treasurer

James Munlyn is an accomplished financial services professional with experience in Navy Tactical Warfare execution, System Test and Evaluation and Intelligence Analysis. As a longtime Baltimore area resident with two children, James cares deeply about BMG's mission and students.

Liz Shearer

Board Member

Liz Shearer has worked in the international education field for 23 years and currently serves as the Director for Study Abroad & Away at Towson University. She is committed to increasing access to high impact global learning experiences to help today’s youth become socially responsible, engaged citizens of the world. Liz is also the co-founder of Bmore Abroad – a group that provides a space for productive collaboration and professional development for local international educators and raises funds for scholarships for college level study abroad in the Greater Baltimore area. Liz was born and raised in the UK and moved to Baltimore, Maryland in 1998.

Darius Kogah

Board Member

Darius, a high school student at ACCE, was born and raised in Cameroon, bringing a rich international perspective. His journey took him to the United States during middle school, where he has achieved remarkable milestones, such as becoming the middle school valedictorian. Darius has also garnered numerous awards and recognitions for his outstanding academic performance. Having grown up in a different cultural environment, Darius appreciates and understands the importance of cultural diversity and joins the B More Global team to help advance BMG’s goals of educating students about cultural diversity by sending them to diverse countries at little or no cost. 

Jennifer Martin

President

Jennifer Martin, a biologist by training, believes in the power of international experience to open up new possibilities for students. Both of her daughters are Baltimore City Public School graduates who had the opportunity to travel abroad on school trips. Her volunteer activities have included working with kindergartners on reading readiness, serving as President of her community association, and leading the Board of the Charles Village Community Benefits District. She was one of the founders of the Village Learning Place, a community library and learning center in Baltimore. She holds degrees in Biology from Yale University (BA) and Johns Hopkins University (PhD).

Abby Weeks

Vice President

Working with Baltimore City Public Schools since 2007, Abby is a physics teacher at The Academy for College and Career Exploration. Prior to this experience she was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ghana. Abby has coordinated study abroad programs within her school communities since 2018 and believes strongly in the power of world travel in shaping the futures of Baltimore City students. 

Angela Shaffer

Board Member

Angie, the Executive Director of the Fund for Education Abroad, is a Baltimore City native and a first-generation college graduate. Holding a B.A. in International Relations from Goucher College and a M.A. in International Education Policy, Angie has a wealth of experience in international education. She has directed sponsored research, led program development at Cultural Vistas, and collaborated with TPG Cultural Exchange. Passionate about creating opportunities for underrepresented students, Angie has authored articles on experiential learning and exchange, led education abroad programs in Japan, India, and South Africa, and co-led a Fulbright-Hays Group Project Abroad to Rwanda and Mauritius. As a Moms as Entrepreneurs Academy graduate and founder of A2Z Ventures, a cross-cultural training and education consulting LLC, she supports nonprofits with grant writing, strategic planning, and cross-cultural training. Angie currently lives in Baltimore City with her family. 

Keara DeKay

Board Member

Keara is a learning & development professional with experience in the international education, DEI, and non-profit sectors. Her global experience includes growing up in Nigeria, studying abroad in Germany, teaching English in South Korea, and moving across the U.S. Keara spent much of her career dedicated to expanding access to global experiences for underserved communities, including K-12 students, community college students, and HBCU/MSI students. Since finding her home in Baltimore, she has volunteered for organizations such as BMore Abroad and B More Global in an effort to grow and strengthen the K-12 to postsecondary education pipeline. Keara holds degrees from Brandeis University (BA) and the University of Texas at Austin (M.Ed.)

Melissa Gomez de la Fuente

Secretary

Melissa Gómez de la Fuente is a product and project management leader with over 15 years of experience in the higher education and electronics manufacturing industries. Her global experience spans the US, Latin America, Europe and various Asian markets. Originally from Mexico, Melissa is a graduate of the Autonomous University of Guadalajara where she studied Electronic and Industrial Engineering, she obtained an MBA from Hult International Business School and received her Doctor in Business Administration from Walden University. Melissa has developed a talent for leading cross-cultural teams, she is successful in designing, implementing and managing new online products and developing business models.

Amara Sillah

Board Member

Amara is a Baltimore native who has worked with students throughout the country to expand educational outcomes. He started his career teaching government and economics through TFA and has since spent his career building partnerships and programs in various nonprofits. He currently serves as the Alumni Director for TFA Baltimore where he supports educators build meaningful pathways and connections to better serve youth and themselves. Prior, Amara led the program team of a local non-profit dedicated to providing wrap-around services for youth in Baltimore. With a B.A. in Psychology and a M.S. in Nonprofit Management in Social Entrepreneurship, he is incredibly passionate about Baltimore's youth, scaling and streamlining nonprofits, developing people and talent, and of course international travel!

Sarah McVay

Board Member

Sarah is an attorney based out of Washington, D.C.  Prior to her legal career, she was a middle school social studies teacher with the Baltimore City Public School System.  Sarah is a strong believer in the value of travel for enrichment and student development, and in lowering barriers to travel for youth who otherwise might not have the opportunity.

Ian Franco

Board Member

Ian Franco has worked as a commercial underwriter for both local and national banks for over a decade, helping to analyze, structure, and manage commercial loans for borrowers across a diverse array of industries. Currently, Ian works with large not for profit borrowers, such as colleges, charter schools, and human service organizations for M&T Bank. He lives in Baltimore City with his wife, his three month old daughter, and his 12 year old daughter, a Baltimore City Public Schools student. Ian has a B.A. in English from the State University of New York at Albany and an M.B.A. from University of Baltimore."
