2020 Interns

Carmen Bravo is a junior at the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute. Her excitement for working with B More Global stems from her trip to Costa Rica in seventh grade. Carmen traveled on a full scholarship after having secured thousands of dollars in corporate sponsorships throughout middle school. Having discovered the power of her own voice, she has since testified before the City Council and had her writing published on the Baltimoreans for Educational Equity website to advocate for fair funding for struggling Baltimore City students. Carmen is also involved with BPI’s JROTC program and volunteers at the Special Olympics and Polar Bear Plunge. She is motivated to dedicate her time to supporting more students to visit other countries and have amazing experiences themselves.

Thomas Brown is a rising sophomore at Baltimore City College. In the spring of 2019, Thomas spent eight days in the Dominican Republic after completing two-and-a-half times the number of volunteer hours required by B More Global. Shortly after returning home, Thomas learned that he was valedictorian of his 8th grade class. Thomas was well-prepared to offer a graduation speech; he had testified twice before the Baltimore City Council, once in favor of electing a student representative to the Board of School Commissioners and once in opposition to defunding after-school programs. During his freshman year, Thomas continued to advocate for his peers by initiating a grassroots effort in support of proactive mental health services in Baltimore schools. Though Thomas has not decided on a specific path for the future, he is committed to standing for those who have been marginalized and silenced. Thomas is grateful for the opportunity to return to B More Global to help other students without means to have the kinds of life changing and perspective-broadening experiences that the organization afforded him.
Alicia Bravo is a freshman at the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute. Alicia is passionate about pen paling, which has allowed her to reach out to people from other countries and backgrounds. Alicia became more involved in the Baltimore community in 6th grade when she learned about the opportunity to go abroad with her peers. Ever since receiving a full scholarship to go to the Dominican Republic, she has been eager to help others have similar experiences to her own, leading her to her B More Global internship.

Sylvia Clark is a Baltimore City Public School student who will be starting 9th grade at Baltimore City College in the fall of 2020. She is a recipient of the 2020 Carson Scholarship for students who excel academically and are dedicated to serving their communities, and she was also awarded a half scholarship in 2019 to participate in a service learning trip to the Dominican Republic with her peers at Patterson Park Public Charter School. Working on the sponsorship team and volunteering at fundraisers to earn her scholarship was very rewarding, and she is excited for future students to have the same experience.

Noah Wells is a freshman at Baltimore City College who serves as a student leader on the events committee with B More Global. In his 7th grade year, he took his first trip outside of the country on a B More Global trip to the Dominican Republic where he learned about cultures he had never seen before. He hopes to use his teamwork skills to help plan events where everyone can have fun and learn all together.
